Workshop // Deep  Soma with Amera Stanforth

| £20

The Sanskrit word, Soma means, “moon”. It is also the name of the Hindu moon God who is known for kindness and gentleness. Soma also describes a nectar that flows within each of us. This nectar needs to be replenished regularly with nourishing and relaxing activities. When Soma runs low we move towards ‘burn out’.

As the nights begin to draw in this is the natural time for us to replenish Soma. This deeply relaxing/nourishing workshop offers the opportunity to slow down and find a sense of inner calm.

Using fully supported and deeply relaxing restorative postures and meditation techniques students are encouraged to take time to find comfort and stillness so they may journey more deeply inwards and replenish Soma levels. To enhance the experience, gentle music, relaxing essential oils and faux fur rugs will be used to create a nourishing, restful and relaxing yoga cocoon.

The session closes with a soothing neck and shoulder massage to relieve tension and a deeply restful Yoga Nidra meditation or ‘Yogic Sleep’. Beginning with setting a personal intention you will then be guided through a relaxation technique to expand your awareness and encourage stillness and calm.

There will be time at the end to enjoy some sleepy tea and dark chocolate to leave feeling fully nourished, calm and ready for a night of deep sleep.

This moon sequence harmonizes our Yang practices and busy lives, with a cooling Yin attitude and pace bringing us into balance and caring for and cooling our often frazzled nervous system, pausing to meditate and feel the deep impact of this codified sequence.

“Inner peace is not the opposite of turmoil, it is being intimate with whatever happens, no matter how unpleasant or unwelcome.” Godfrey Devereux.

Autumn is a time for drawing deeper into ourselves and into our bodies. Dive into Autumn is an invitation to embrace this seasonal shift and dive more deeply into ourselves through restorative yoga, inner connection and deep rest.

This workshop will teach you how to take the time to breathe, relax, nurture, ground and balance yourself with the vital practices of restorative yoga.

Perfect for those who enjoy restorative yoga and are interested in exploring advanced restorative poses and techniques. It will be relaxing yet informative with a blend of experiential practices and open workshop-style learning to improve self-practice or your own teaching skills.

We begin with a meditation practice designed to bring us into our body and invite softness with a sense of relaxation into the spine, body and mind.

Following a variety of restorative forward bend options to take us out of our head and into our body, we start our practice at floor level, with a slow-flowing, restorative sequence, aided by supportive props and natural and organic alternate nostril breathing.

After a short break we will explore more technical backbends and inversion restorative postures using props helping us to understand how to set up and how to support each other and ourselves in these more complex restorative poses.

We end with a deep long, luxurious savasana practice to integrate all of the things we have experienced and learned during the session. Aromatherapy oils will be used to reawaken our senses, and sweet treats and tea will revive and soothe us.
