We aspire to make our classes at Kula interesting, varied and informative. We continually review our timetable offering to ensure we are putting on the very best classes for a range of students of all levels, whether you are a complete beginner or a level 2 advanced student.

We are delighted to introduce a level 1 Ashtanga class to our Saturday timetable with the incredible Claire Dambawinna. Ashtanga is a class predominantly associated with those students who already have a yoga practice or those with slightly more experience. Our beginners are often advised to try our level 1 Hatha and Vinyasa Flow classes as well as our Yoga Technique class which we designed specifically for beginners and those students who have completed our Begin. course. Beginners might also enjoy Yin and Restorative if they would like something more balancing. This is why it fills us with so much pride to be able to offer the Ashtanga Primary series to those new to yoga or those with less experience.

Students who are interested in coming along here is what you can expect from the class:

– slower, accessible ashtanga class
– building strength and flexibility
– building knowledge (of the sequence, poses) and confidence to move/take through to open level classes
– building good habits and technique
-focus on breath-led movement
– traditional teaching including learning the opening mantra, Sanskrit counting
– focusing each week on a different part of the primary sequence
– traditional teaching including learning opening mantra
– each week we will focus on a different part of the primary sequence

Claire Dambawinna completed her yoga teacher training with tri yoga and is an expert in technique and alignment. By starting your Ashtanga journey with Claire you will be in great hands and you will have the opportunity to learn things you might not get to try very often in our all levels Ashtanga class such as the Sanskrit counting and the opening Mantra. These are tools you will carry for the rest of your long yoga life.

Although this is a level 1 class we highly recommend it for all levels, perhaps you already have an Ashtanga practice but you fancy slowing down a little bit, refining your technique and build good/better habits.

Claire’s classes:

Yoga Technique every Thursday at 8pm

Hatha every 3 Saturday’s per month at 12:30pm

Ashtanga Level 1 Saturday 8am

Claire will also be running our new Explore course starting in July on Thursday evenings at the School of Philosophy so watch this space for more details.
