”It is through your body that you realise you are a spark of divinity’ – BKS Iyengar.

We are joined by the radiant Lesley Watson and Rebecca Watson on Saturday 23rd March to immerse ourselves into the practice of Iyengar Yoga.

Throughout this workshop we focus on precision in our back bend practice. As we work to achieve perfect alignment in each pose, we aim to create balance in the body and mind. In addition to helping students gain flexibility, balance, and strength, Iyengar yoga can be be useful in the management of certain health conditions such as chronic low back pain. In back bends, we work the whole of the back of the body to open the front, creating stronger back muscles and ease of movement in the spine. This brings mental sharpness and alertness the effects of which are invigorating and enlivening.

Back bends heat and energise where forward bends cool and calm the nervous system. Active back bends exert strong work on the body so our sequence is well rounded with the inclusion of forward bends, bringing the spine back into a neutral mode before we ease into a state of relaxation in a well deserved savasana. Take the time to be still and ground, let go of excess energy, nurture yourself and give yourself time and space to let go and be at rest.

Throughout our practice we are gently introduced to a thoughtful selection of essential oils, which will be used to enhance the benefits of our sequence. Essential Oils are termed ‘essential’ because they are the essence of the plant and in the middle ages; known to be essential to life. Oils will be used that have energizing properties and those that help to soothe and calm the nervous system.

You can expect to leave feeling balanced and invigorated with an understanding of how to use essential oils effectively.

A free sample of an essential oil used will be included.
