Celebrate Summer Solstice & UN International Yoga day at Yoga Kula June 21st

“Discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Known as the “festival of achievement”. Summer Solstice –-the longest day of the year – and has always been seen as a very mystical time, Solstice means “Standing of the Sun”. Today the term solstice is used to describe the exact moment when the sun reaches its northernmost point (around June 21) or southernmost point (around December 22) from the earth’s equator. We can connect to this great turning point in the earth’s yearly cycle by taking a moment to stop, be still and look back at our own unique journey since the winter solstice.

Summer Solstice is a doorway to the second half of the year… To celebrate we have two fab workshops on offer, attend one workshop or both. Create an urban retreat for yourself ! It will be lovely to do these practices on what we hope will be a sunny and special afternoon.

We will incorporate some Trataka candle gazing meditation into both workshops to really connect to that fire element and develop our insight.

Summer Love LeedsSummer Love: An invitation to develop self love and inner awareness. This workshop will be a celebration of all things feminine. We will combine calming balancing breathing practices, alongside a combination of Yin & Yang elements, building some inner heat initially with flowing sequences in honour of the sun, then slowing things down with some restorative poses and plenty of time for reflection, deep relaxation and rest. Being mindful of our cycle and own bodies needs on the day!

13.30 – 15.00 – Solstice Salutation (Movement & Sound workshop – Men & Women) £15 pre book, £17.50 drop in.

This workshop is inspired by my training with http://www.kym.org in India back in 2008. The practice is very meditative & combines yoga movement with sacred sound. In this workshop we will follow the natural flow of the breath, moving with awareness through varied poses, combining movement with sound (simple vedic chanting) in praise of the sun. Grounding the body & mind to invite internal space & openness in the body, experiencing the power of sound as it resonates through us to lift our spirits and connect us to the Earth’s vibration on this special Solstice afternoon.

This is the month that affirmations and personal chants are exceptionally powerful especially if combined with candle burning. The intellect is inspired by the passion of fire, now is the time to join together our passion and our spirit. (Rachel Hertogs)

Summer Solstice is a doorway to the second half of the year…

“ This is summer’s height, midsummer, the longest day and the shortest night of the earth’s solar year. Here we celebrate the completion of the cycle that began at the winter solstice. In the midst of the longest day of the year, we simultaneously begin our return to the dark half of the year.

From now to the winter solstice everything in earth will be withdrawing within. We can use this time to focus on what we wish to nurture and develop in ourselves during the coming months. The summer solstice is a doorway into the second half of the year, energizing the paths that lead within. Here we can stand on the threshold and ask ourselves what do we wish to encourage in your life?” (Yogaseasonalweebly.com)
