Yin + Yang // The Deep Front Line

Yin + Yang // The Deep Front Line

‘Fascia lines create stability, resistance, power, flexibility, elasticity, and above all, compensatory posture.’  Tom Myers

We invite you to join the incredible Senior Yoga Teacher Julia Knight for our Yin + Yang // The Deep Front Line workshop on Sunday 30th June, 1-3:30pm.

T H E   D E E P   F R O N T    L I N E

The Deep Front Line or DFL allows us to access to our core fascia which travels the body from head to foot, and as well as being a stabiliser the DFL closely mirrors the Yin Meridian energy channels of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Y A N G + Y I N

To balance our Yin and Yang energies this workshop will begin by activating our DFL with a backbend focused all levels Vinyasa Flow (Yang) practice which be accessible to beginners whilst modifying postures to challenge more experienced yoga practitioners.

We will then move onto a floor based, nervous system quietening Yin practice, which will balance the Yang practice and bring focus to your Yin kidney energy — the life force of our inherent constitution and ancestors.

B E N E F I T S

This Yin and Yang practice will encourage strength alongside suppleness and stability, and will help you to:

  • Understand your Deep Front Line fascia anatomy and how to connect with and activate this.
  • Build strength in an integrated way, balanced with suppleness.
  • Deepen your awareness of ways to protect your lower backs.
  • Explore the relationship between Yin and Yang
  • Understand how to keep balance in your life.
  • Understand how breath (Pranayama) in your Yoga practice can support the Yin and Yang energies in your life

Summer Flow

Summer Flow + Nidra // Deborah Grossman

We invite you to join the radiant Deborah Grossman for our seasonal Summer Flow + Nidra workshop on Saturday 29th June at 2:30pm.

Enjoy a nourishing and warming blend of pranayama, yoga flow, qigong and deep relaxation. We’ll take time to reflect on how best you can support, resource and nourish yourself during the busy summer season.

The summer season

The summer season is all about deeply warming ourselves. The sun is the ultimate source of almost all light and warmth on the Earth’s surface and summer is when nature’s energy and our own energy are at their peak. This session supports a harnessing of this energy, bringing it into our bodies and our lives.

This warming season offers opportunity to balance calm with vibrancy and a time for enjoyment rather than striving – a time for living life to the full and enjoying the world around us. This season’s practices encourage circulation, alongside a sense of deep calm.

Organs associated with this season are the heart and small intestine and our practice encourages the flow of energy along the organs’ meridian lines. It’s the season for:

  • LaughterSummer Flow
  • Contentment
  • Meditation
  • Movement
  • Compassion
  • Letting go
  • Balance
  • Socialising

Expect:

  • Postures to build heat and increase circulation.
  • Cooling postures to provide the calm and balance.
  • Yoga Nidra for deep rest.
  • Cooling Pranayama
  • Walking Meditation
  • Delicious seasonal treats

Seasonal Flow Yoga

The concept of Seasonal Yoga Flow was created as an antidote to the stress and anxiety of modern life to restore our feeling of wellbeing. The practicecan help us to find physical and emotional balance and rejuvenate our energy, whilst working in harmony with nature.

The classes focus on particular energy channels and corresponding organs in line with each season; class content changes with the seasons. Seasonal yoga combines Yoga, Tai Chi, Chiqong and a modern understanding about body movement, with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Within traditional Chinese medicine, a holistic, integrated system of thinking, each season corresponds to an element, a life stage, a color, a shape and a time of day, as well as to aspects of the individual. This includes emotions, activities, internal organs and the senses.

This holistic, interconnected philosophy can guide us in tending to our health seasonally and help keep our bodies in better harmony.

Yoga for Living with Cancer // Leeds TV!

We recently invited Leeds TV to join our Yoga for Living with Cancer class, which runs every Tuesday at 1:20pm-2:30pm with Senior Yoga Teacher Lara Heppell.

Yoga For Living with Cancer

This incredible class has been part of Yoga Kula for 6 of our 7 years of our journey, beginning in October 2013.

Our aim is to create a sacred place for people living with Cancer. A space where people are welcome to attend no matter how they feel, be quiet and be concerned only with their own well-being and healing. Our classes contain a lot of love and support and everyone is welcome.

All we aim, is for you to leave the studio feeling better than when you came in. Yoga is not a cure for Cancer but it can certainly help the body to work as efficiently as possible by strengthening the immune system and encouraging inner healing systems.

What does the class involve?

We have people with all types and stages of cancer coming to class. People in supportive roles are of course more than welcome to join us as well. Every class has physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, restorative poses and a guided relaxation.

This weekly class offers a calm sanctuary where you can find some comfort and ease in your body and quietness for your mind. It is suitable for everyone who has an experience of cancer.  Whether that be recently diagnosed, in treatment, in remission, in the palliative stages or even those in a supportive role. You don’t need to have any yoga experience, or be coordinated, flexible or even feel good to come along. You can even do the class sitting on a chair. Just come along and join our wonderful and supportive community.

Every class looks very different. Some days one person will be on the floor in a restorative pose, one will sit on a chair doing side stretches and two others will sit on the floor doing the same side stretches. Any physical limitations are catered for and we adapt each session to meet you where you are.

Learn more below as we join Karen, Stephen and Joseph to hear more about their Yoga for Living with Cancer journey, and from Lara Heppell who teaches this class every Tuesday at 1:20pm.

Join George Ruddiman to retune, restore and nourish your subtle energies with a Chakra Flow Moving Meditation and relaxing Gong bath.

Before we immerse ourselves in a healing bath of sound, we begin with a chakra flow moving meditation. Here where we connect the breath to movement alongside some beautiful and uplifting kirtan music. The breath is the gateway into the subtle energies and when we connect it directly with movement we can really drop into the present and tune into the subtle body.

For the final hour of this retuning workshop we settle back supported with props and surrender to the soothing and relaxing sounds of the Gong. The Gong is an ancient healing tool that can help emotional and physical wellness,. This is done by activating the parasympathetic nervous system which is generally under stimulated in the Western culture. The effects of working in this way can be meditative, healing and deeply relaxing. The sound vibration is experienced by every cell in the body and this brings greater balance and harmony.

May Moon Sequence

Moon Sequence // Julia Knight

We invite you to join the incredible Senior Yoga Teacher Julia Knight for our Moon Sequence + Meditation workshop on Friday 31st May at 7pm.

What is the Moon Sequence?

The 'Moon Sequence' was created by advanced yoga practitioner Matthew Sweeney as a way to balance the fiery nature of Ashtanga yoga, and to restore the body on moon days when our energies need support. This is a nourishing yet dynamic set sequence, working closely with gravity and the earths energy. We will explore a strong focus on hips and shoulder tension release, flowing with the breath.

The Moon Sequence allows us to harmonise our Yang practices and busy lives, with a cooling Yin attitude and pace. This helps us to bring balance whilst maintaining and cooling the nervous system. You don't need to practice Ashtanga to benefit from this beautiful Friday evening workshop. If you are looking to ease into a Yin yoga flow with infused moments of meditation, this is the workshop for you.

Meditation

After our Moon sequence we will settle into a long, relaxing Savasana before taking time to deepen the connection to our source with cooling Pranayama and a guided Moon Meditation.

On this Spring full moon we increase awareness of our changing mind and body conditions whilst regulating the nervous system.

Bring yourself back to the present after this deeply relaxing session with some lovely tea and cake. A Moon Phases handout will be given to each student to take away with them, including — an introduction to the effect the Moon has on us throughout its phases, and how we might connect consciously with this throughout each moon month.

The past 2 years have also seen the launch of our Teacher Training Course - we are training up our second batch of teachers and will soon be welcoming a new group of trainees into the fold. If you'd like to be part of our third Teacher Training Course, click here for full information.

We also have our new adventure to share with you. The Yoga Kula Hub, based a few doors down from our studio gives us the opportunity to plug even deeper into the Chapel Allerton Community. It's our new way of letting everyone know about all of the amazing classes, workshops, retreats and courses we run in our cosy healing haven.

We will offer advice to ensure you get the right class for you making your yoga journey bespoke and personal. The Hub also offers a selection of ethical, plastic free and locally produced yoga and lifestyle products.

Join us and let’s celebrate our 7th birthday in true Kula style!
